Belfast

Belfast is Calling!

Another one of our hometowns, we love Belfast, so we do! Over recent years the city has transformed from an industrial powerhouse into a modern European city. When you travel to Belfast you'll see that this city does everything with a unique accent and a friendly smile that is next level. You won’t find a warmer or more vivacious welcome anywhere. We’d put money on it!

Your taxi driver, server, bar tender or neighbours at the next table all have a story for you. They’re happy to give you the insider guide, so don’t be afraid to ask! You’ll find just a few of these characters at St George’s where the weekend markets have some of the freshest local produce around: fish from the coast, potatoes from Comber and hot street food from across the region and beyond. You simply must try an Ulster fry!

St. George’s is just a short walk from the City Hall and the main shopping area around Donegall Place. Head a little northeast from here and you’re into the Cathedral Quarter which is jam packed with great bars and places to eat – it’s where the city comes to life at night. Down cobbled streets and around quirky lanes you’ll find high end restaurants and casual dining, historic pubs and brand-new bars, and incredible street art that gives places like The MAC a run for its money.

If you’re on foot, cross the river by the Big Fish (it’s not hard to find!) to get to an area of Belfast that is really having a moment: the Titanic Quarter and Maritime Mile are a pleasure to walk and lead you straight to the iconic Titanic Belfast, a world-leading tourist attraction. This is the very spot where Titanic was designed, built and launched all those fateful years ago. And this aluminium-clad architectural wonder is a site to behold even before you enjoy the experience of its nine interpretive and interactive galleries.

The Ulster Museum and Botanic Gardens remain a firm favourite for family days out and you’ll find both in the Queen’s Quarter, named after the famous university. Students come here from around the world, making this part of the city an international hub with an eclectic mix of shops and places to eat.

Belfast has more than its fair share of walking and hop-on, hop-off bus tours. These are a great way to explore the rich history of this small but mighty city. Belfast is nestled within and sheltered by its hills, from which you can survey the entire city, from the Sampson and Goliath Cranes and Belfast Lough, to the Mournes and Carlingford, and across to the Isle of Man.

Of course, Belfast and Northern Ireland are now well known across the globe as ‘The Home of Thrones’. If you know, you’ll know – and you’ll want to go! One of the most popular fantasy TV series ever made, Game of Thrones was filmed in 25 locations around Northern Ireland, each chosen for their epic ruggedness, historic architecture and breath-taking scenery. All, from countryside to forest to coast, are within easy reach of Belfast.
