Our company

We are Stena Line, one of the world’s largest ferry operators with over 27,500 yearly sailings. Everything we do is based on our core values of care; care for customers, care for resources and care for each other.

Stena Line has its roots in Sweden and we are truly an international company. We employ over 6,200 employees from 50 countries around the world. With our headquarters located in Gothenburg, Sweden, we have a route-based organisation in 7 business regions.

We are a ferry company with the vision to connect Europe for a Sustainable Future. Offering seamless ferry transportation for all of our customers with an absolute commitment to safety and reliability and a reduced environmental footprint.

Our Swedish heritage

Sten A. Olsson was brought up on an island on the west coast of Sweden. At a young age, he learned that hard work, collaboration and care for each other pays off. In 1939, aged 23, he set up a business trading scrap metal in Gothenburg. A few years later he bought his first ship and the rest is history. Today, his son Dan is the CEO of the Stena Group. Stena Line remains a family-owned business with Swedish roots and we’re proud of our heritage.

Our vision “Connecting Europe for a Sustainable Future” is the lighthouse that keeps us on course even when it's dark and stormy. In a sustainable future, we are emission-free and without negative impact on air, water or land, or on people. Our purpose

Our purpose “To be a trusted link between people, places and societies” gives meaning to what we do every day. We earn trust because we always deliver on our promises. We have the most extensive route network in Europe and we play an important role in society. As a link, we're part of something bigger: bringing people together, ensuring that goods reach their destination, and enabling businesses and societies to grow. We create opportunities to explore new destinations and revisit past favourites.

A route-based organisation

We have a route-based organisation within 7 geographical business regions: Denmark, Germany, Baltic Sea North, Baltic Sea South, Irish Sea North, Irish Sea South and North Sea. The business regions make it possible for the company to take advantage of synergies and focus on profitability. Each route organisation is responsible for its own profitability.
